Lesson Policies

To keep things smooth and respectful for everyone, here are a few simple guidelines for lessons at Vancouver Harp Academy.

 Scheduling & Cancellations
  • Lessons are scheduled weekly at a regular time.

  • Lessons are booked in a set of either four or ten credits, which allows for greater flexibility than payment per date.

  • 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel a lesson and keep your lesson credit.

  • Properly cancelled lessons are credited toward future lessons, valid for up to 1 year from the original date.

  • Same-day cancellations or no-shows are charged as usual (except for emergencies).

  • All lesson credits must be used within 1-year of purchase.

Payment
  • Lessons are billed monthly or in a set of ten, depending on student preference.

  • Lessons must be paid for in advance. If you have no remaining lesson credits, payment is due before the start of your next lesson.

  • Accepted payment methods: e-transfer, cheque, cash, or PayPal.

  • No refunds are available, but eligible cancellations are credited toward future lessons.

Studio Conduct
  • Please arrive on time and bring any required materials (no need to bring your own harp, unless you'd like to).

  • Parents are welcome to quietly observe lessons for younger students, and with the permission of older students.

  • Hands must be freshly washed with soap and thoroughly dried before playing the harp.

  • Fingernails must be kept short in order to maintain proper technique.

  • While a harp will be provided during the lesson time, any personal harp rentals or purchases are the responsibility of the student (I’m happy to help with recommendations).

  • Please note: Neither teaching location is wheelchair accessible at this time.

  • Online lessons are available for students who prefer or require a remote option.

Illness & Safety
  • If you’re feeling unwell, please stay home — we can switch to an online lesson instead, or if you let me know promptly (no later than the morning of your lesson) you may be eligible to keep that day's lesson credit.

  • In-person lessons follow current public health guidance.

Materials & Communication
  • Beginner music books and theory worksheets are included for new students.

  • You may be asked to purchase additional repertoire or supplies as you or your child advances, but I’ll always let you know what’s essential and what’s optional.

  • Please feel free to reach out to me between lessons — I usually respond to emails and messages within 1–3 business days.

Studio Culture

Vancouver Harp Academy is a welcoming, non-competitive environment. Students are encouraged to celebrate each other's progress, explore their unique musical goals, and learn freely at their own pace.

Bullying, teasing, or disrespect of any kind will not be tolerated. I’m committed to creating a space where students of all ages feel safe, supported, and free to grow.

Thanks for supporting a respectful, focused learning environment for all students.
